Nowadays, environmental problems have been biggest concern of all activities. Due to increase in world population, energy and thereby natural resources consumption has been increased drastically. This higher consumption will lead to higher waste generation. Nowadays, electricity demand has been increased, which will increase load on power plants. So, thermal power plants will emit more amounts of carbon dioxides and this will lead to global warming. In addition to air pollution problems, liquid effluent generation has also been increased due to higher demand of all goods and basic needs. Liquid effluent has been treated in such a way that there can be recovery of all valuable chemicals present in effluent. Cleaner production and cleaner technology are the potential solutions of these types of problems. In this particular project, we have treated dye manufacturing company’s effluent, which was containing dye-intermediates, salts & acids. The main objective of the project is to investigate and evaluate opportunities for waste minimization and recovery of valuable chemicals in this industry. Industry is producing SPCP, which is generally used as dyeintermediates. Environmental problems encountered were mainly higher COD due to byproducts like Sodium Sulphate presence in the effluent. There were 1, 4-PhPS is also there in the effluent, which is a valuable byproduct. So, for recovery of all these chemicals from effluent and to decrease its COD, in this project ethanol is used for recovering out Sodium Sulphate from the effluent and followed by 1, 4-PhPS by evaporating ethanol out. The implemented cleaner technology proved to be cost effective and have short payback period.en
