Abstract: Soft starters are used for induction motor drives having fan, pump and blowers type load where load torque is directly proportional to square of speed. AC voltage controllers are used as soft starters for smooth starting of induction motors. This paper presents a novel simulation technique for three phase ac voltage controllers. Output voltage can be controlled by controlling firing angle. Simulation results presented in this paper elucidate the advantages of proposed soft starting method over conventional method. Finally features and benefits of the proposed technique are concluded.
