The application of non-linear loads such as diodes, thyristor rectifiers, switched mode power supplies, uninterruptible power supplies, adjustable speed drives, etc. is proliferating in the present times. These loads introduce harmonics in the power supply system, which affects the performance of other loads connected to the system. This has led to the stringent implementation of the standards like IEEE 519 -1992 and IEC 555 for limiting the maximum harmonic currents drawn by the industrial and domestic loads. Keeping in view, the high power application like traction, this thesis hi ghlights the simulation of the proposed PWM, Regenerative Front- End Converter by using the mathematical model approach and the actual power circuit approach. The mathematical model has been implemented in Matlab (Simulink) and the power circuit model has been implemented using PSim. The results obtained using both the approaches have been obtained for motoring as well as regenerative mode of operation of the converter and the comparison of the results have been obtained. The design parameter of a prototype of the proposed PWM, Regenerative Front End Converter for 750 W power rating has been obtained. The relevant parameters such as the current and voltage rating, PI controller parameters, A.C side inductor, D.C link capacitance have been obtained. The IGBT gate driver circuit with protection against short circuit and dead band has been explained. Its fabrication has been done and successfully tested .The controller to be used for implementing the control logic has been explained.en
