Abstract: The lack of adequate knowledge of structural behavior under seismic loads has claimed many lives and caused extensive property loss. A lack of good design and inadequate earthquake resistance causedamagestomanmade structures. The recent earthquake has revealed that the seismic strengthening or retro tting of the building are one of the challenging task the structural engineer faces. The seismic retro tting of building is the most e ective methods of mitigating the seismic hazards. The purpose of retro tting is to upgrade the strength andthe ductilityof existing damaged building so that it can withstand the future earthquake with minimum damage. The strengthen- ing or retro tting of existing concrete structures to resist higher design loads, correct strength lossduetodeterioration, correct design or constructionde ciencies, or increase ductility has traditionally been accomplished using conventional materials and con- struction techniques. Steel or concrete jackets, GFRP or CFRP wrapping and addi- tion of new shear walls are just some of the many traditional techniques available. Present work is focused on the Retro t of an existing building, de ning de ciencies, providing appropriate retro tting and obtaining performance of a retro tted RCC building. G+2 RCC school building is considered as case study for retro tting. Var- ious Non Destructive tests (NDT) are performed as a part for primary inspection of school building. It helps to ensure the de cient structural members. ETABS software is used for modeling and analysis of structural member. After iden- tifying of de cient structural member, suitable retro tting methods are adopted. For retro tting of de cient beam, GFRP wrapping has been done to increase exural capacity. Jacketing has been done to take care of moment capacity for retro tting of de cient columns. To take care of seismic forces the existing foundation is to be strengthen by combined footing which integrate member of columns.
