Abstract: Solar and wind energy systems are omnipresent, freely available, envi- ronmental friendly, and they are considered as promising power generating sources due to their availability and topological advantages for local power generations. Hybrid solarwind energy systems, uses two renewable energy sources, allow improving the system e ciency and power reliability and re- duce the energy storage requirements for stand-alone applications. The hy- brid solarwind systems are becoming popular in remote area power generation applications due to advancements in renewable energy technologies and sub- stantial rise in prices of petroleum products. This dissertation presents simu- lation, optimization for the stand-alone hybrid solarwind energy systems with battery storage.Simulation and Optimization is done using HOMER (Hy- brid Optimization Model for Electrical Renewable) software. Energy storage can be done through either battery or by using supercapacitor. Apart from HOMER, a new algorithm for optimized system suitable for local conditions is suggested and evaluated. Six di erent locations of Gujarat is selected for study with three di erent plant size i.e. 1 kWh=day, 10 kWh=day and 100 kWh=day. A new algorithm suggest the combination of HOMER and cal- culation. HOMER gives optimized rating of equipment except battery and calculation gives cost of energy.
