Abstract: As the world grapples with the energy and environmental crisis, there is an urgent need to develop and promote environmentally benign sustainable cooling technologies. Solar cooling is one such promising technology, given the fact that solar energy is the cheapest and widely available renewable energy that matches the cooling load requirements. In the present study, the literature review on parabolic trough collector (PTC) for vapour absorption system is presented. The details of design and development of PTC carried out at Mamata Energy Pvt. Ltd., Santej, Ahmedabad are presented. The results of experiments on PTC carried out without and with vapour absorption system (VAS) are discussed. In the PTC, the maximum achievable temperature of thermic oil (Therminol 66) and maximum PTC e ciency were found to b e 246 °C and 46. 87 % respectively. When PTC was tested with VAS, the drop in temperature of different rooms is found to be around 12 °C to 13 °C and the VAS e ciency is found to be 83.46%.
