Abstract: Refrigeration has many applications, including refrigerators, industrial freezers, cryo- genics, air conditioning and heat pumps. Deep freezer come in use mainly for food storage like milk, ice-cream, medicine, dairy product etc. Most deep freezer maintain temperature ranging from -18°C to -23°C. The present study was undertaken for design and performance optimization of a deep freezer with a focus on the refrigerant evaporator. Experimentally the time was deter- mined by the system to attain the steady state temperature of -18°C. The evaporator performance was simulated using a CFD software. The CFD simulation of conduction-convection heat transfer with various channel cross section are presented in the present work. The 2D, heat transfer simulations are ob- tained by solving the governing equation and QUICK algorithm using a Fluent 6.3.26. The computed results gives temperature pro les for various cross section geometry and suggest the optimized design for an efficient evaporator.
