Abstract: | Nowadays; the renewable energies are the only sources that can replace fossil com- bustibles. These new sources are mainly clean, safe and quite cheep for the user. Among them, the wind power has driven a considerable attention these last fteen years. Many large wind turbines, installed either o -shore, operate at a variable speed and use several types of electrical AC generators. The amount of energy captured from a wind energy conversion system (WECS) depends not only on the prevailing wind at the site, but also on the control strategy used for the WECS. To extract the maximum of energy, it is needed to build adequate power electronics control for synchronizing the currents and the voltages with the grid frequency when the com- plete system works at variable frequency. Wind turbines can be made with either constant-speed or variable-speed mechanical input. The variable-speed wind turbine has several advantages, like higher energy extraction from the wind, lower noise at low wind speed and cleaner power transfer to the grid. Two con gurations of variable- speed electromechanical converters are nowadays retaining attention: the direct-drive synchronous generator with power electronic converter and the doubly-fed induction generator with gearbox. Permanent magnet synchronous generator are becoming more popular over the induc- tion machine in wind turbine applications, because of the increased power to volume ratio, decreasing cost of magnets, and increased e ciency. The purpose of this project is to nd a solution of sensorless control of surface mounted PMSG for wind turbine applications. This thesis is written on the basis of wind energy conversion system under the title of \Sensor less Vector control of PMSG for wind turbine application". In this project work, wind turbine is emulated with the help of IM drive. IM drive can be behave as a prime mover. Prime mover runs Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG). In this thesis major focus has been done on direct drive WECS with PMSG without using gear box and also with less numbers of sensors. |
