dc.description.abstract | Flexible AC Transmission Systems, called FACTS, got in the recent years a well- known term for higher controllability in power systems by means of power electronic devices. Several FACTS devices have been introduced for various applications world- wide. Basically there are Shunt and Series type of FACTS devices. The shunt devices are primarily for reactive power compensation and therefore voltage control. In to- day's world the study of shunt connected FACTS devices is a connected eld with the problem of reactive power compensation and better mitigation of transmission related problems. Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is a custom power device based on a Voltage Source Converter (VSC) shunt connected to the grid. The STATCOM goes one step further than SVC and is capable of improving the power quality against even voltage dips and ickers. The advantage of a STATCOM is that the reactive power provision is independent from the actual voltage on the connection point. In this work MATLAB based simulation of STATCOM and its related analysis of STATCOM is done. At the rst stage of this work, the study of various Shunt Connected FACTS devices and simulation of 2-level STATCOM is done for mitigating voltage dips. At the later stage of the project, MATLAB based simulation of 3 MVAR 2-level D-STATCOM (Distribution STATCOM) is also done which shows the Reactive Power (VAR) Com- pensation & Voltage Flicker Mitigation. The respected simulation results are being shown. Later in the last phase of the project, MATLAB based simulation of 3-level D- STATCOM is being carried out and the respected results are being shown. Also the comparision between 2-level & 3-level D-STATCOM is being shown. The future scope of the project includes the hardware implementation of the 2-level STATCOM for Power Quality based on the control by DSP Controller. | en_US |
