Abstract: The purpose of this project is to provide a general understanding of PV cells. The modeling of PV cell is carried out to obtain typical I-V and P-V characteristics of PV cells. The voltage available at PV Panel terminals is continuously changing and hence it needs to be processed through electronic converters for constant voltage output.A Boost converter topology of the converter is selected to step up the input voltage and to keep the output voltage constant. Every photovoltaic (PV) array has an optimum operating point, called the maximum power point, which varies depending on cell temperature, the insolation level and array voltage. The function of MPPT is needed to operate the PV array at its maximum power point. The Maximum Peak Power Tracking (MPPT) is proposed utilizing a boost-converter topology. Solar panel voltage and current are continuously monitored by a closed-loop microcontroller based control system, and the duty cycle of the boost converter continuously adjusted to extract maximum power. Many algorithms for MPPT are available now a days. After making comparison between these algorithms Incremental Conductance is found to be the best.
