The phenomenon of stress concentration is found universally whenever there is an occurrence of a hole or a discontinuity in the structure subjected to load. Study and evaluation of maximum stress concentration can be used to develop to an effective method to prevent failure of the components due to stress concentration. In the design of these openings, functional requirements are of prime importance than the strength consideration. The problem may be solved for single hole. The stress distribution around the openings changes, when multiple openings are considered. The presence of large hole near the small hole increases the stress near the small hole. The ‘Stress Concentration Factor’ is found to be maximum around the rounded corners of the openings. Also the SCF reduces when the openings are reinforced with suitable stringers. The finite element method is employed to analyze the stress concentration effects of holes in laminated composite plates , the analysis consider the composites both as homogenous orthotropic plates producing an equivalent property solution, and as laminates consisting of lamina of various orientations, each having its own concentration. The basic principles of the finite element formulation for stress concentration in composite laminates are explained .The analysis is being done using FEM software ANSYS and the respective results are presented in the form of stress contours.en
