Abstract: This project includes Finite Element Analysis and Design Optimization of a Typical Structural Component of a Plastic Injection Molding Machine. The aim of project is to optimize a typical structural component (stationary platen) by using finite element analysis after checking induced stresses with allowable design stress. Hence design modification of platen is carried out to achieve good strength and cost effectiveness. The project covers design, FEA and Optimization area. Pro/E Wild fire2 is used for modeling and ANSYS software is used for analysis. Also all related issue in FEA such as repairing of IGES file, Mesh Generation, Selection of Element, Loads and Boundary conditions, modeling with ANSYS, Interpretation of result, optimization techniques have been carried out. In Design optimization, objective function is to minimize weight and cost by altering design so as to reduce the material. Modification of design is carried out by observing the stress contour in analysis results. By using iterations the final optimization is carried out. Conclusion have been drawn
