Abstract: In recent years the problem of pollution has become very acute. The emission trading program is introduced by applying market based technique instead of command and control technique to control the pollution. Water quality trading applied with the aim of reduction of water pollution to the desire level with minimum treatment cost. Hence a comparative study is carried out to maintain inlet chemical oxygen demand loading of common effluent treatment. A methodology is discucced to apply this concept. The mathematical models, formulated as mixed integer programming problems, are limited to watershed trading and have been implemented and solved through the CPLEX. Results includes Treatment sugeested to the pollution source to implement technology, the overall cost comparision in trading and non trading secenario. Also included number of credits demand before and after technology implemented. Which industrial sector will be credits buyers or Which industrial sector will be credits seller, is also reported.
