dc.description.abstractThis Mechanistic study is related to the oligomerization of olefins such as hexenes, octenes, decenes etc.using Lewis acidic ionic liquid. Applications for olefin oligomers are feedstocks for surfactants, clean diesel fuel, octane boosters and new monomers. Derivatives of a-olefin oligomers (obtained through a chain end functionalization/double bond conversion) can be used as (macro-) monomeric building blocks for novel graft copolymers containing oligoolefin side chains. The catalysts was the most important structural parameter for these reactions. Ionic Liquid is prepared in small scale. Ionic liquids consist of cations and anions, and are commonly understood as green solvents. By definition their melting points should be lower than 100 °C. In this particular study we are attempting to understand the oligomerization reaction better. Specifically the pathway the oligomerization takes with respect to the various isomers of octenes. In this respect a detailed kinetic study has been carried out with 1–octene, trans 2–octene, trans 3–octene, trans 4–octene, cis and trans mix 2–octene. Subsequently we would also like to analyze the structural properties of the final oligomerized material obtained from each of these various isomers to understand the mode of oligomerization in each of the respective cases. The outcome of this which will lend us important leads to understand the oligomerization reaction better and these also help us design better catalyst to tune the properties of the final oligomer.en_US
