Abstract: | The recent Advances in Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) and wireless communication technology make it a pragmatic vision to deploy a large-scale,low power,inexpensive sensor network.A Wireless Sensor Network (WSNs)is a network of sensors that senses speci ed parameter related to en- vironment processes data locally or in a distributed manner and wirelessly communicates information to central Base Station. A Wireless Sensor Net- works is a collection of nodes organized into a cooperative network.Each node consists of limited processing capability,has a RF transceiver,has a power source(e.g batteries and solar cells),and accommodate various sen- sors.Wireless sensor networks have great potential for many applications in scenarios such as military target tracking and surveillance,natural disaster relief,biomedical health monitoring, and hazardous environment exploration agriculture, and seismic sensing. The demand for energy e ciency in Wireless Sensor Network is growing in a rapid speed.As layered architectures have served well for wired net- works,so we may think of using them for Wireless Sensor Network also but when this architecture is used for Wireless Sensor Network there are cer- tain disadvantages like high requirement of energy and code memory.Hence we propose a cross layered architecture,were we consider the combination of physical layer,data-link layer and application layer together to Exploit the dependencies and interactions between layers to increase performance in Wireless Sensor Network. We use Fuzzy Logic(FL),for decision making in the proposed cross layer architecture Zigbee is well re ned protocol for Wireless Personal Area Network.It aims low power,low data rate,secure networking.Firstly we evaluate the perfor- mance of Zigbee using Network Simulator NS-2.Then we apply the proposed cross layer architecture to improve its performance.The Zigbee with proposed cross layer architecture shows improved performance in terms of Through- put,Packet delivery ratio,End to end delay ,Energy consumption |
