Abstract: Basic Axial Flux Permanent Magnet (AFPM) Brushless DC (BLDC) motor design is carried out for Electric Bicycle (EB), finalized main dimensions and performance of the motor, as well as the finite element (FE) approach in machine design is analyzed. Computer Aided Design (CAD) is made for different topology and design aspects. MagNet 2D & 3D is used to analyze the electrical machine, where different types of models making as well as its FE analysis can be done. FE analysis is useful to determine the actual performance of machine with numerical data given by CAD program. Development of AFPM BLDC is the focused part of this work & it started after finalizing the dimensions and other parameters. Fabrication work has been carried out to validate the design. After the development of the prototype laboratory testing has been carried out and some of the performance prediction have been derived. The resistance and inductance are 8.1 Ω and 11.24 mH per phase respectively for the development motor.
