For Electric Vehicle (EV) systems, the wheel motor is an application that requires the electrical machine consist of shape flexibility, compactness, robustness, high efficiency, and high torque. Axial flux machine is a complete solution to fulfill the requirement. In this work the study, analysis and simulation of Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor and its drive is carried out. The motor considered for this work is a 250W, 48V, 150RPM dual rotor Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Brushless DC Motor. Here the adequateness of axial flux permanent magnet motor for EV application compared to other motors is provided on the bases of the work done by peer researchers and as the controller for the same machine is to be built, the extensive survey related to AFPM motor drive for EV, finalization of rating and simulation to determine the control strategy are covered and elaborated for the performance prediction of the drive. To simulate the control strategy for the same, PIC microcontroller PIC16F877A is selected and the features available on chip and the basic control algorithm for the brushless motor control is elaborated in subsequent chapter. According to control algorithm the code for the controller is developed and then verified using proteus software. Result of the simulation is shown and according to that the hardware of the whole controller is designed. The hardware results of controller give the desired commutation.en
