Abstract: Applied Element Method (AEM) is displacement based analysis method in which structure is virtually divided into rigid elements assumed to be connected by springs. Deformation characteristics of structure are represented by normal and shear springs at the contact surfaces. In two dimensional structures one normal spring and one shear spring is considered at the contact of elements. The stiffness matrix is developed by considering spring forces on contact surface, irrespective of type of structure. The accuracy of analysis results depends on number of elements and number of contact points considered between the elements.
