Abstract: The Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System (IRNSS) is a satellite based navigation system that provides coverage within India and 1500 km from Indian mainland. A software-based intermediate frequency (IF) IRNSS signal simulator for the L5 signal is developed and verified in this thesis. The signal simulator is implemented in Visual studio with key modules coded in C++ to accelerate speed of operation. This project involves the development of IRNSS signal simulator capable of driving IRNSS software receiver. The main purpose of the simulator is to provide satellite like signal to the receiver for testing during the development in lab environment. Compared to live testing, a simulator provides convenience, repeatability, and in many scenarios at much lower cost. There are several existing companies that offer GPS simulators. The goal of this project is to design & develop software based IRNSS IF Signal simulator that would not sacrifice a great amount of accuracy. To operate the simulator, the user supplies the receiver position, trajectory and the initial date, time etc. These selections will be made using a GUI based Windows application on a PC. The theory behind the project has been developed, and significant portions of this project were built and tested.
