Abstract: Packet processing in routers is implemented in dedicated hardware. Now a days hardware are improved and those are capable to do complex packet processing and this give new idea for routing that is software routers. Software routers are more flexible and easier to program. Here in software router to achieve higher bandwidth and processing speed compare to traditional router is a challenge. To achieve highly parallel nature of packet processing in routing GPU based software router is batter option. In a Software router programmability and low cost are strengths but using this to achieve high speed is a big challenge. In this software router we use Graphics Processing Unit for high-throughput packet processing.GPU has hundreds of small cores so it has capability to do thread level parallelism of network packets. More over memory bandwidth of GPU is more than CPU memory bandwidth so it can fetch fast data then CPU which make routing lookup more faster. GPUs are cheap and easily available and because of its parallel execution of data it do fast packet processing and complex packet processing. When GPU do this task it make CPU free from doing packet processing so it can handle other task. Moreover because of faster packet processing we can detect network attacks and prevent them at our router cum server.
