Abstract: Shear walls are specially designed structural walls to resist lateral forces such as wind, earthquake and other lateral forces. They provide lateral load resistance by transferring the wind or earthquake loads to the foundation, and they impart lateral stiffness to the system and also carry gravity loads. During an earthquake shear wall absorbs and dissipates a lot of energy by cracking, so analytical studies limited with linear analysis is not suficient. Hence non-linear analysis with proper modelling is required. In this study shear wall is modelled and analysed using ABAQUS finite element software. Concrete is modelled by 8-node linear brick element (C3D8) and rebar is modelled using truss element (T3D2).Concrete Damaged Plasticity (CDP) model is used to represent the non-linearity. Non-linear load de ection behaviour is obtained by applying the monotonic loading in model. The validity of the model is checked with the experimental results available in elsewhere. Numerical studies are made on ductility of shear wall which is in uenced by several factors like aspect ratio, axial load on shear wall, percentage of vertical reinforcement and percentage rein- forcement in boundary element or distribution of reinforcement in plan of shear wall. Aspect ratio of 1.92 ( 2), 5 and 10 shear walls are modelled and non-linear monotonic behaviour is obtained for varying axial load on the each shear wall. Axial load effect on the ductility of the shear wall is studied and suitable inferences are made. Similarly parametric study is conducted on effect of percentage of reinforcement in boundary element then web of wall is also studied. The ABAQUS results are compared with the codebased calculations. Numerical studies on shear wall using ABAQUS software are extended by applying cyclic loading and seismic excitation. The validity of the model is checked with the experimental results available in elsewhere.Static ductility and dynamic ductility are compared. Suitable recommendations for performance based seismic design of shear wall structures are made.
