Abstract: Progressive collapse denotes a failure of a major portion of a structure that has been initiated by failure of a relatively small part of the structure such as failure of any vertical load carrying element (typically columns). Failure of large part of any structure will results in to substantial loss of human lives and natural resources. Therefore it is very important to prevent this type of disproportionate collapse which is also referred as progressive collapse. In the present study progressive collapse potential of 4-storey and lO-storey Asymmetrical RC building is evaluated. Linear and nonlinear dynamic analysis is performed for different Column removal cases using SAP2OOO by following Alternate load path method. Displacements found using linear dynamic analysis at critical locations are compared with that obtained by nonlinear dynamic analysis. Comparison reveals that nonlinear dynamic analysis is more accurate method of analysis which gives higher value of displacements compared to linear dynamic analysis.
