dc.description.abstractCryogenic treatment is process of deep freezing materials at cryogenic temperatures (at about -300 F). It has been proven to increase wear resistance, tensile strength and durability of material. The process is widely used in tooling industry, racing application, in production of gun barrels and even in audio industry. The changes occur mainly due to the reasons – transformation of retained austenite into martensite, precipitation of fine eta-carbides and removal of residual stresses. The article deals with application of the treatment to various tool steels, study of the results and commercial applications of the treatment.en_US
