A comprehensive Computer Aided Design (CAD) procedure and Finite Element (FE) analysis for a Switched Reluctance Motor is presented in this paper. Proper value of magnetic loading, electric loading, length of air gap, material and other variables play an important role in design of the Switched Reluctance Motor. This analysis incorporates better approach for calculation of the rotor bore diameter, stack length, stator and rotor dimensions and performance estimation. The developed CAD program gives the design data and the performance estimation of the motor. The design variables such as air gap, specific electric loading, magnetic loading, flux density in the stator back iron, etc., are assumed. Three motors of different ratings are designed using the developed program and then Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is carried out to validate the design of the motor.en_US
