Abstract: Distribution system is most vital part of the power system as, it is the point where the consumer and the utility shake their hands. For lucrative results in billing cycles, utility must step towards the smarter ways of distribution. By implementing Demand Response Management System Optimum utilization of existing resources can be done. Consumer Demand Response is essential for balancing the supply and demand relationship by shifting electricity demand from peak demand periods to offpeak demand periods and hence minimizes the electricity generation from fossil fuels and hence can protect the environment. By implementing DR program, optimum scheduling of appliances is done which minimizes the cost of energy. Shifting of the load is done by considering Priority of load, Comfort level, Time of Use tariff, Flexibility and DR event. A good practice is to make the consumers aware of the energy usage pattern. This can be done with the help of Smart Interfacing Devices and advance microcontrollers. A smart energy interfacing will provide information of the real time loading condition and supply condition to the consumers. This paper also discusses the hardware implementation for the smart energy interface at consumer premises.
