dc.description.abstract | An Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) is a technology that uses a gasifier to turn coal and other carbon based fuels into synthesis gas. Coal [or other hydrocarbon fuel such as petroleum coke, biomass] is converted into syngas through the gasification system. The syngas consists mainly of hydrogen (H2) and carbon monoxide (CO). After cleaning, the syngas is used as fuel in the combine cycle to produce electricity generation. The combined cycle is more efficient than conventional power-generating systems for it re-using waste heat to produce more electricity. Coal has been the most abundant available energy resource and efforts are made from all ends to make the optimum use of the potential that this resource possesses. IGCC as a technology is also very important as it separates the impurities and makes them available in forms which can be further utilized easily, making this entire process residual free as an entity. | en_US |
