dc.description.abstractEnsuring the quality of the software product is of utmost importance in making the product reliable. The quality of the product must be ensured by a rigorous testing program which encompasses testing of each feature individually as well as in group. With complex and heavy products like ORWMS having thousands of features, manual testing alone is obsolete. Automation testing is a technology which is becoming popular for such scenarios day by day, it does not replace manual testing completely; but many forms of testing such as regression testing can be taken over by automation testing. Thus choice of best automation tool for the software product becomes necessary to ease the e ort for quality assurance. Choosing a proper automation framework is an another important decision. It must be such that the e ciency and ease of testing is increased. This study aims to compare two automation tools namely, OpenScript(part of OATS) and HP QTP. Both have been implemented using appropriate frameworks that suit the tool and the application. The comparison is made in terms of their features, cost, ease of use and support. The categories of comparison are utility, ease of learning, user friend- liness, scripting & recording features, ease of debugging, playback e ciency, test-results reporting, data driven testing, performance & maintenance and cost. To analyse the speed, results of 15 regression-test-cases executed on ORWMS using both the tools are compared.en_US
