Abstract: This project will be initiated by carrying out detailed study of the factors and design constraints related to Irp and consistency of magnetic release (i.e. Max. instantaneous trip current) of the Molded Case Circuit Breaker. Existing 630A frame MCCB contact system and magnetic release will be analysed on FEA tools like JMAG to find out limitations & scope for design improvements in the existing design. Based on the findings of detailed study & simulation results new concepts for contact system, fix & moving magnet of the MCCB will generated. From these data increase the value of safety margin between Irp and Imt to reduce the chattering of contact tip and it reduce the problem of single phasing. Pro-E software will be used for 3D modelling & drawing preparation of the proposed designs. Prototypes of the proposed design will be validated by practical testing of 630A Frame MCCB. Post successful completion of design validation, proposed design will be finalized for development & improvement as mentioned in the title.
