Abstract: Wanakbori thermal power station is the biggest power plant in Gujarat under Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited with total generation capacity of 1470 MW. Major power generation (58 %) is done by thermal power plants in India. In Wanakbori Thermal Power Station, between 9 to 12 % of the generated power never makes it past the plant gate, as it is diverted back to the facility's own pumps, fans, compressors and other auxiliary systems. Auxiliaries consume the highest quality energy in the plant, namely electrical energy. The objective of this project is to find out main area in the plants where one can optimize the power consumption and give comprehensive view of auxiliary systems and describes some common approaches to energy efficient design which can be applied in retrofit and new plant projects that can help to improve energy efficiency and reduction in auxiliary power consumption. Due to old power station using old electric motor H.T., M.T. and L.T. since last 30 years also motor are overhauled so many times and about 25 % of motor are using with rewind. The study of cost economic viability for replacement of rewound motor with new and energy efficient motor.
