Abstract: Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor of 300 kW is designed. The required power is obtained by connecting two 150 kW motors in counter rotating arrangement, such that the toggling force on the application vehicle, can be made zero. Out of two motors of 150 kW, each motor has double rotor and sandwiched twinstator, where the two stators are connected in parallel. Each stator develops power of 75 kW. In the designing of motor, one of the 75 kW stator is designed. The constraint in the design process is the size of whole motor arrangement (300 kW) space requirement. So from the size constraint, outer and inner diameter of stator should be within 400 mm. The motor dimensional and performance parameters are obtained by analytical method of finding the dimensions, such that the terminal voltage required by motor matches with the dc bus voltage fed through the vector controlled drive to the motor. Scalar control of axial flux PMSM drive is done and torque, speed voltages in d-q axis are observed in transient condition. Sine Profiling of magnets is achieved through analytical calculations. Also, the comparative analysis is done of axial-flux with radial-flux motor for same application.
