Abstract: Use of Fixture is important in machining process of crankshaft. As it reduces the excessive setup time and increases productivity of the component. The work presented is concerned with design and development of pin grinding fixture for six cylinder crankshaft. Fixture is designed according the 4-2-1 principle of locating. Detailed modeling of parts is carried out. Assembly of different fixture parts, its feasibility check is carried out using Creo parametric software. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances is applied to the parts by carrying out tolerance stack up analysis. Fixture parts designed details have provided to the manufacturer for machining purpose. After manufacturing of the fixture, trial run is carried out for checking fixture accuracy. Before proceeding for grinding crankshafts are firstly averaged on the fixture by attaching a driver/adapter plate, then proceed for the grinding. Grinded crankshafts are checked using customized machine named as Adcole, for checking different pin grinding parameters like diameter, throw, cylindricity, circularity etc. Also in-process checking is carried out for every crankshaft. Still there exists the scope for some improvement.
