A shuttle loom is a device used to weave cloth. The basic purpose of shuttle looms is to hold the warp threads under tension and insert weft threads across them. Five basic mechanisms shedding, picking, beat-up, Let off and take up are used in shuttle loom of weaving technology. Take up mechanism is called secondary motion in shuttle loom. The main function of take up motion is to wind up the fabric on weaving machine. The aim of project is to develop a new take up motion which will be simpler and give better working on weaving machine. Parts of take up motion are modeled and assembled by using Solid modeling software. Force analysis is carried out for spur gears.Total maximum load or dynamic tooth load is calculated using Buckingham equation. Gear is analyzed for contact stress with Hertz stress formula and for bending stress using AGMA standard.Contact stress and bending stress are validated using finite element analysis. Module is important geometrical parameter during the design of gear. Effect of higher module on force and contact stress is analyzed. The change is suggested in the existing machine is to replace casting plate with mild steel plate. New design is analyzed and verified using finite element analysis. In proposed take up mechanism MS plate is used that resulting into reduction of weight of mechanism.en_US
