Abstract: In manufacturing sector, implemented international standards helps to achieve great improvements in quality, lead time reduction and customer service levels. The core part of dissertation work is to optimize the manufacturing practices for food machinery manufacturers which utilizes their conventional standards in compliance with the DIN standards. To reduce the quality laps key areas like welding, electro polishing and material handling have been focused. For establishment of methodology an extensive study of failure mode effect analysis (FMEA) on the existing practices has been carried out. For welding parameters optimization different experiments performed and then welded samples have been characterized by means of water leak test and microscopic investigation. For electro polishing improved process conditions, process time and chemical agents have been introduced at each workstation. To reduce the lead time in material flow new part code marking technique has been validated by Cero 3D simulation and suggested. Major documents on ASME, AWS and DIN standards have been referred especially for pipe welding process variables. The effect of input process parameters on weld bead quality parameters have been presented in graphical form , which would help in selecting the optimum welding process parameters to achieve the desired clad quality quickly in future. Some more experiments like water pressure test and tests for passivity have been carried out for comparative study between existing and new approach. Due to implementation of optimized standards, lead time has been reduced.
