Abstract: In the beverage industries, water is an essential raw material with a consumption of approximately 2.5 litres per litre of beverages. Water used by bottle washing machine is about half of the total water used. In bottle washer larger portion of this water is in the form of caustic soda solution. Caustic soda solution can be reused after removing dirt from it through filtering and sedimentation process. Therefore water can be saved as well as cost of caustic soda solution can be reduced. In the presented work, above ground steel sedimentation tank is designed as a caustic recovery system. Design is based on various codes and standards. It includes design against wind and seismic loading according to Indian standards. It also includes design of leg supports, design of thermal insulation, design of attachment such as stiffening ring, lifting lug, manholes, stairs, design of piping attachments such as air vents, tank cleaning nozzle. In the presented work for validation of design, finite element analysis using software packages has been carried out.
