Abstract: Nowadays due to heavy trafic congestion there is a great demand of yovers, under passes, etc. And these bridges has to align with the existing road alignment which has led to increase in use of horizontally curved bridges. Horizontally curved bridges have heavy torsion, warping, etc. along with the shear force and bending moment. Moreover, stability is also a major issue. Hence analysis of curved bridges becomes complex and time consuming. The present work is an attempt to investigate the in uence of curvature to the bending moment, shear force and torsional moment of horizontally curved post-tensioned prestressed concrete box girder bridge superstruc- ture. Parametric study has been done for 30m, 35m, 40m and 45m span with radius 50m, 100m, 150m, 200m, 250m, 300m, 350m and 400m for each of these spans. Also. in the parametric study graphs representing span V/s bending moment, shear force and torsion moment for straight and curved girders have been presented. The proposed method of using graphs will aid in the preliminary analysis and design of horizontally curved box girder bridge in design practice. Numerical design example of post-tensioned prestressed concrete box girder has been presented for a 30m straight and curved span as per IRC:112-2011.
