Abstract: | An attempt has been made in this project to use FRP rebars as tensile and shear reinforcement for RC beams. Total twenty four beams having cross sectional dimen- sions of 150 mm x 200 mm with efective span of 900 mm are cast. Variations have been employed in study by changing the main reinforcement for RC beams. Beams are divided into two main categories i.e. exural deficient and shear deficient. These two main catagories are provided with diferent amount of transverse reinforcement. Each catagory has four sub catagories and each sub catagory has three beams. In exural deficient four sub-catagories named exural control beam FC, GFRP beams FF1, FF2 and FF3 are cast. In these GFRP beams three different percentage rein- forcement of GFRP as main reinforcement has been taken. In shear defficient four subcatagories named shear control beam SC, GFRP beams FS1, FS2 and FS3 are there. In these GFRP beams three different percentage reinforce ment of GFRP as main reinforcement has been taken. Different parameters like moment capacity, failure load, crack pattern, strain and deection are measured experimentally for all beams. Design for HYSD RC beams has been done as per IS 456:2000 and moment and shear capacities of GFRP beams has been evaluated as per ACI 440.1R-03 provi- sions. Moment and shear capacities of different RC beams with HYSD reinforcement and GFRP reinforcement have been calculated. The tensile test of GFRP as well as HYSD bars have been conducted.. Here the ultimate tensile strength of GFRP bars is found out to be more as compared to HYSD bars. Comparable failure loads, moment capacity and shear capacity has been observed for RC beams with FRP rebars and conventional HYSD rebars. |
