Abstract: | In recent years, large number of users have subscribed to pay-television in the world. As all the transmission will be in digital format in the whole world, so that Digital TV is becoming an emerging consumer product. With the new features of digital technology, set-top-box has become keyword for transmitting and receiving audio and video signals, compression of audio and video signals, and other signal processing. Set-top-box is now found most useful electronic home application in the current era. It nay be interest to many that what the set-top-box and how it works. In the process of understanding how it works, we can say that a small box which is set beside the TV which is central for migration between analog-to-digital broadcasting. For fulfillment of this requirements set- top-box is used to do processing for digitization of cable TV to enable viewer to watch the video on the TV. Set-top-box not only work like converter, but new features are added day-by-day. Set-top-box is providing various functionality to user like record and playback, subtitle, movie on demand service, connect to networks, access the Internet, play video games, communicate in real time device like play from your personal storage device. In this project, we create set-top-box which is based on customer requirements. Requirements are like DVR, zapper, Wi-Fi connectivity etc. Project includes creation and validation of set-top-box, provide software development kit to fulfill the need of framework for testing, debugging, demo and Customer-deployment. This testing is done by standard test-cases. It verifies the kernel level managed API and components like Streaming engine, Display, Infrastructure etc. Nowadays, set-top boxes use new and in- novative designs and features which consume less power like on-demand video recording, home networking for connecting set-top box with other boxes and remote programming with mobile phones. There are many ways through which energy can be saved. These methods include using various modes like sleep mode, on mode and active mode in set-up boxes. Analysis made from testing various test-cases on low power module shows that energy savings in given opportunities are 30-40 percent more. Various techniques are used to show that less power is consumed when device is in standby mode or in sleep mode. |
