Abstract: With increase in consumption of electricity and complexity in network there is a challenge to prepare generation systems which is reliable, safe, and economical. For planning, design, and operation of electrical systems of power plant several studies and analysis are required to assist in the evaluation of the initial and future system performance, system reliability, safety, and the ability to grow with production and/or operating requirements. The objective of this project is to design the system configurations and equipment parameters, analyze the system and prepare the optimal design in terms of power quality, reliability, and protection point of view. This project represents design, analysis, and protection electrical systems of gas based power plant. It includes the analysis of different electrical equipments like genera- tors, step up transformers, Isolated phase bus ducts, generator circuit breakers, and their sizing/rating calculation. For the analysis, single line diagram of power plant is modeled in ETAP software. By performing all this analysis, optimal system configu- rations and equipment parameters are determined. For protection, relay setting and coordination is required to achieve in ETAP. In this plant, generation of electrical power is at 20 kV, transmission is at 400 kV and distribution is at 11/0.415 kV. The auxiliary load list is taken as preliminary data. The acceptance criteria is based on the general industrial requirement and practice.
