Centralized power systems are providing way to massive number of distributed generation and micro grids. Technical, environmental and economic obligation are altering the trends of electricity generation and transmission. Renewable energy sources are considered as important preference in micro grid. Micro grid has been established at Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited, Ranchi. The project involves various analysis inclusive of voltage profile, outage management, service improvement, reliability assessment, economic feasibility and environment impact of the system. Performance evaluation of 190 kWp rooftop solar photo- voltaic plant installed at site is carried out. The analysis is based on real time data which are collected from smart meters and simulation using PVSyst software. Both results are compared and discussed to analyse the performance of the system. These results also re ect the performance of such plants under real operating condition in India. In addition, simulation results by HOMER show a case study of an optimal contour of micro grid with solar energy, diesel generators and energy storage system at site. For different cases including a base case (main grid and diesel generators) and micro grid case (main grid, solar energy, diesel generators and energy storage system) are simulated and compared. Technical analysis is also done by compar- ing the data from current year with previous years which are collected from power analyser, smart meters and electricity bills. The main focus of the system is on the optimal design and scheduled operation of energy sources within micro grid to max- imize usage of green energy, reduction of environmental emissions and decrement of levelized cost of electricity.en_US
