Abstract: | In present, power system is very large, complex and interconnected, which consists of thousands of buses and hundreds of generators. Presently electric power system have a need of reliability, exibility, accuracy and fast dynamic response. Voltage regulation and power factor correction both are the process for maximizing the efficiency of an electrical power system to deliver the most possible power as active power. All industrial, commercial and residential are using inductive and capacitive loads which are not working on the unity power factor so it is a waste of energy and distortion in system voltage regulation. Power factor correction and voltage regulation is needed for decreased power cost and increased system capacity. Generally we are using dynamic (Mechanical switched) as a compensator for power factor correction and voltage regulation. Main objective of project is a Power Factor Corrector and Voltage Regulator by using FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission System) device Static Var compensator(SVC). Typically SVC includes one and more banks of fixed or switched shunt capacitor and reactor. If any reactive load is capacitive (Leading) then thyristor controlled reactor (TCR) will consume the VAr (Volt Ampere reactance) from the system and If load is inductive (Lagging) then thyristor switched capacitor (TSC) will provide a higher system voltage. Thus as per different requirements combination of TCR-TSC (Thyristor Controlled Reactor - Thyristor Switched Capacitor) and FC TCR (Fixed capacitor-Thyristor controlled reactor) will be useful to improve a power factor and voltage regulation of the system. Also this FACTS devices are fast acting and more reliable. |
