dc.description.abstractAt present the machine tool manufacturers are facing competition internationally due to worldwide globalization of business. It was required to produce quality product at the minimized rate and to be supplied to the customer at the right time. Moreover, the quality of the job produced on these machine tools depends directly on the quality and performance of the machine tools produced and cutting conditions. Structure is very important for the design considerations of any machine tool. In machine tool design, at nal stage, to optimize the design, analysis becomes powerful tool for designer and thus it is required to analyze the various structural components like i.e. spindle housing, base, column, saddle, top-piece etc. It is very di cult to analyze the structure analytically and moreover time consuming. Present work deals with the application of software FEMAP (NX Nastran) to solve the problem lying with analytical analysis method with elusive bene ts of reducing time and increasing accuracy of design-analysis results. Six di erent axis con gurations were modeled, analyzed using nite element analysis method and compared based on various parameters. Then static and modal analysis of nal con guration is carried out. Results suggest that bridge type double column machine tool structure is optimum. The designing of block structure and weight reduction is also carried out.
