Abstract: Conventional motors have many limitations and disadvantages such as less efficiency, low power density, poor power factor, lower torque to current ratio whereas permanent magnet motors overcome these drawbacks and enhance the performance of the motor. Permanent magnet motor also offers compactness, fast dynamic response, high speed range and gear- less operation. The main objective of the project is to design a Radial Flux PMBLDC motor for elevators. The motor ratings are calculated for the design. Finite element (FE) analysis has been carried out to validate the design. To further enhance performance of the motor few cogging torque minimization techniques have been successfully tested for the design of all motor ratings.
