Abstract: | In conventional static converters there are more number of conversion stages i.e. ac-to-dc- to-ac, therefore the efficiency reduces. Matrix converters provide direct ac-to-ac conversion without any intermediate dc link. Thus, it also eliminates the dc link inductor and capacitor which results in reduced number of stages thereby increasing the efficiency. In this project a Single-phase to Single-phase Matrix converter is being designed and fabricated, which converts input line voltage into variable voltage with unrestricted output frequency without using intermediate circuit or dc link, using 8 switches. Pure sine-in and sine-out, power factor control, compact and simple design and regenerative capability due to use of bidirectional switches are its main features. Here the matrix converter realization as a rectifier, inverter, buck converter, boost converter and cyclo-converter are studied through proper simulations in MATLAB/Simulink software package. |
