dc.description.abstract | Type 2 diabetes mellitus and hypertensions are the disease conditions which are at alarming rise in developing countries like India.Drug utilization study of anti-hypertensive and antidiabetic agents is of importance to promote rational drug use and to identify drug adherence and proper drug usage. With this insights, present study was conducted to evaluate drug utilization pattern for anti-diabetic,nti- pertensive and to identify drug compliance. Material and methods: A prospective, single centric, on-interventional, observational study was carried out at Apollo international hospitals Ahmedabad for 6 months. Ethical approval was taken from Institutional ethics committee of institute of pharmacy, Nirma University. 250 Patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, with both conditions who are on drug therapy for at least one month were included. Patient’s sociodemographic details and clinical data were noted in predesigned case record form data was analysed using chi square test using graph pad prism files. Patient’s compliance to treatment is assessed by morishky scale. Results: Total 250 patients were enrolled for the study and from which 36(14.40%) patients were suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus, 98(39.20%) patients suffering from hypertension and 116(46.40%) were suffering from both the conditions. From the total number of population, patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus were found to be 98(84.48%) who were treated with monotherapy, 18(15.51%) patients were on dual therapy and none of the patients were found to be on triple therapy. For hypertension, 109(92.64%) were prescribed with monotherpeutic agents and 18(15.51%) patients were prescribed with dual therapeutic agents. In present study patients compliance towards their therapy, was found to be higher and reason behind non-compliance of patients was found due to forget to take medications. Patients suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus compliance towards their therapy was found more than 70% and for hypertensive patients, it was found 64% so as compared to hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus patients compliance towards their therapy was found higher. We also found that, from the total number of population patients suffering from type 2 diabetesmellitus and hypertension who were diagnosed from last less than 15 years were fund to be higher in count as compared to currently diagnosed patients (less than one year). Conclusion: This study contributes to growing body of literature on drug utilization research for patients suffering from T-2 DM and Hypertension. Metformin and insulin injections were found most utilized anti-hyperglycaemic agents and whereas Telmisartan was found most utilized antihypertensive agent. From the study we also conclude that from total number of population patients suffering from hypertension were higher in number and compliance toward their therapy was found less as compare to patients suffering from T-2 DM and from patients suffering from both the conditions. Patient’s reason behind non-compliance towards their medication was found they forget to take medications after they take discharge from the hospitals from our study | en_US |
