Abstract: IOT is a technology which helps to connect anywhere, anytime and anyplace to anyone. This concept of IoT has helped the human kind to make every device controllable without physical intervention by a human being. It has lead to the development of various applications like Smart Grid, Smart parking, Smart Home etc. Among the various applications of the smart grid, we focus on Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI). AMI is used for measuring, analyzing and collecting the consumer's smart meter data. In AMI the meter reading i.e. total energy consumption data is being passed to the meter data management system (MDMS) and from the meter data management system it is passed to the control center. The IoT is connected to the untrusted network called the internet. So that security is the main concern IoT based devices. Our main aim is to provide the security to the power consumption and the control commands which are being passed to the meter data management system. For the security as the main concern, we will be using the Elliptic curve digital signature algorithm (ECDSA). The security is achieved using the application layer protocol - Constrained Application Protocol (CoAP). In CoAP we have added a security patch of ECDSA algorithm. The main of the thesis is to provide end-to-end security.
