dc.description.abstract | Antiretroviral therapy is used to treat HIV (human immunodeficiency virus). AIDS is a progressive degenerative condition caused by HIV virus, and is called the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome.(Pau, 2014) AIDS which was a newly emerged and degenerative disease was found in the 1980s. The causative pathogen for the occurrence of the disease was to be found in the mid 1980s.(Pau, 2014) HIV is spread primarily through unprotected sex, hypodermic needles, blood transfusions contaminated by this infection and from a mother to the child during pregnancy. Exchange of the body fluids such as saliva or tears, also delivery or breastfeeding does not spread the infection. Primarily the infection starts with small or usual symptoms such as illness, weakness in the body, elevating body temperature, nausea, etc. As the infections increases, it will interfere more with the immune system of the body, which will further increase the risk of developing other common infections such as tumors or tuberculosis. The later stages of this infection or the worse stage of spreading this infection will highly damage the immune system of the body and will lead to the most deadly disease which is known as Human Acquired Deficiency Syndrome. There is no such treatment available for the cure of this infection but antiretroviral therapies are available which can reduce the infection and increase the immune system. As soon as the diagnosis has been done, starting earliest treatment is recommended. The average survival period without the treatment is around 10 years. In 1981, AIDS was first recognized by the United States CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention). In the early 20th century, HIV originated in the west-central Africa. Worldwide more than 30 million deaths have been estimated. HIV is a disease which is actively spreading over a large area of the world. | en_US |
