Abstract: | Windows is commonly used operating system across home and enterprise segment and its exibility to run multiple applications (e.g. Multimedia / Gaming /produc- tivity /development) makes it a popular OS choice among users. Users of Windows devices performs complex tasks in parallel, e.g. HD video streaming over WiFi, USB data transfer in parallel, processing documents and running several applications in background, along with these users also exercise Power Management(PM) functions like closing lid of laptop or putting desktops to hibernate. These complex tasks put enough stress on multiple platform components and can cause inconsistency and bad behaviors like system crashes/freezes/driver errors/higher CPU consump- tion/memory leakages etc. Existing validation approaches focus on checking system stress/stability via serial execution of use cases to validate system stability. Concurrent test suite is developed for system stress validation that helps to check system reliability when it is exposed to complex use cases in Windows platform. Concurrent Stress Suite is developed as a part of this thesis as a solution which tar- gets modeling of complex user workloads along with PM ows on Windows based client devices. This suite is completely automated along with System level error checking mechanisms and logging capabilities.Using this suite, system can be tested under real time stress(by increasing CPU utilization). |
