Abstract: In recent years, the power system scenario have changed significantly from usage of fossil fuels to renewable energy as the power generating sources, due to which the integration of asynchronous generation with the available synchronous generation into the grid has been increased. The renewable energy generation includes wind energy resources which utilizes asynchronous (mainly induction) generators which provides low inertia due to the absence of stored kinetic energy in their rotating mass. Thus the integration of the renewable energy in grid will reduce the overall inertia of the system. The reduction in the overall inertia will effect the transient stability of the network which is a challenging problem as it is essential for the system to settle into an acceptable steady-state operating condition after a large disturbance. The contingency analysis have been performed where the change in active power demand due to sudden change in load is considered and the transient stability in terms of fault handling and fault clearing during a three phase to ground fault have been simulated. During this analysis the standard test system with synchronous machine as the generating source is compared by replacing the generating source of the standard test system with Type-I and Type-III wind turbine model block.
