Abstract: In Computer Networks, data dissemination server is required to transfer large amount of data to many interested clients. Such transfers can happen either in two ways unicasting or multicasting. Unicasting would require large bandwidth as same copy of data has to transferred multiple times to each clients. If there are large number of clients than there are chances of bandwidth bottleneck. One solution to the problem is IP based multicasting that is used for transferring same data to multiple receivers. IP multicast allows a server to address a single transmission of data to multiple clients at once, which reduces repeated transmission of same data to multiple clients. This project evaluate the performance of IP based multicasting to provide service for transferring Indiam satellite data to different space agencies with less overhead and better bandwidth utilization and eliminate network traffic. Multicasting is based on UDP protocol. Since UDP is unreliable protocol it will not be able to give reliability for satellite data dissemination. This dissertation shows how to provide reliability for transferring data to all clients in multicast group.
