The function of excitation systems is to maintain constant terminal voltage and to provide field current to the field winding of the synchronous generators. Previously excitation system was designed only via analog circuit leading to inappropriate controlling of the excitation system. With the advancement in technology and semiconductor device and the digital excitation system can be designed. To future improve the performance of the system. With the development of static excitation systems, Automatic Voltage Regulators (AVR) and Power System Stabilizers (PSS) were also developed to improve the transient stability and small signal stability respectively. The aim of this project is to design a generator excitation controller that have faster response and can improve the transient stability as well as small signal stability with reduced system cost. The controller will be provided with the limiters to account for various limits in the capability curve. Armature current limit, field current limit and region heating limit will be addressed by the limiters. These limiters will be used for the protection purpose of the synchronous generator. The aim of this project is to develop mathematical and simulation model of Exciter different protective function for implement in hardware setup.en_US
